REFLECTING ON A POLITICAL HOLE (THE SPACE FOR A SCULPTURE)

2010
MA Fine Art Degree Show, Central Saint Martins College of Art, London (UK)
Antarctic archival map, newsprint paper, cotton paper, wood, black iron, polished metal steel, projector, museum archival boards, oil, ink

The installation is composed by several independent elements whose surfaces reorganize the three-dimensional perception of the space into a bi-dimensional one. The whole structure is fragmented into sculptural elements, reconstituting new multiples of the space. The installation acts as a measurement instrument, where a beam of light crosses and cuts the materials and illuminates the surfaces. A hypothetical sculptural unique element disappears in the void of the fragmentation; here the void around the elements gives the possibility to the audience to replace the conceptual lack of the “subject” a personal experience and needs (as the loss of an ideological in politic) transforming it into an abstract and spatial experience.
