L'ABBIGLIAMENTO

2011
performance duration: 15 mins.
materials: slide projector, painted slides, coloured filters

Teatro Valle Occupato, Rome

(eng) The performance was inspired from the Dialogo sopra i due massimi sistemi del mondo (a master of scientific treatise and important philosophical text, written by Galileo Galilei between the 1624 – 30). Galilei involves three people and the reader in a conversation below a ship's deck, where by abstracting them from all external daily conditions is easier to become aware of other laws to follow - such as the ones of the sea. Galilei develops this metaphor in order to exalt the Copernican system compared to the traditional Ptolemaic one. In the performance, with the use of painted slides and filters of different colors, two people dialogue using light projections, following their emotional exchanges, and trying to find a different way of communication from the inside of a closed and independent discourse. The Galilean metaphor takes place in the performance as an activity that seeks a detachment from people’s passivity, while receiving information.

performance's documentation excerpt, 3 mins 30 sec. from 15 mins.
